Orxata de xufa in Valencian Catalan, often called simply horchata in Spanish, is a traditional refreshing drink made from pressed tubers during the summer months. Despite its widespread popularity, the modern version of the drink originated in the region of Valencia centuries ago and is tied to ancient North-African civilizations. On Tuesday at around 19:00, there will be a short informative talk about the origins of the drink, the plant it is made from and the rich culinary traditions that developed around it. This will be followed by a trip to a famous orxateria (orxata, iced drinks and ice cream shop) located not far from the School venue which, afternoon heat permitting, can be reached via a short walk across the fields where the plant is grown.
