At the end of the second day of the Summer School we will gather at the iconic Malvarrosa beach for an evening of beach games, including innovative ones such as ternary ball games and human knots, swimming and some refreshments in the long setting sun.
Participants who are interested in working on some personal or self-organized painting projects during the Summer School will have access to an art workshop. We will encourage pieces created during the Summer School to be shown at the Art Jam Session taking place later during the week.
Participants carrying an instrument or those staying at the Galileo Galilei Residence will have the chance to practise and collaborate during the week to put together some musical pieces or have some preliminary jams before the public Art Jam Session taking place later during the week.
Orxata de xufa in Valencian Catalan, often called simply horchata in Spanish, is a traditional refreshing drink made from pressed tubers during the summer months. Despite its widespread popularity, the modern version of the drink originated in the region of Valencia centuries ago and is tied to ancient North-African civilizations. There will be a short informative talk about the origins of the drink, the plant it is made from and the rich culinary traditions that developed around it. This will be followed by a trip to a famous orxateria (orxata, iced drinks and ice cream shop) located not far from the School venue which, afternoon heat permitting, can be reached via a short walk across the fields where the plant is grown.
The artistic dimension of the Summer School will reach its high point on Thursday night when an informal tapas dinner will be arranged in a local bar that has music jam equipment and where art pieces created during the week will be displayed.
On the final day we will celebrate a week of hard work by gathering one last time at a Mediterranean restaurant located near the monumental and futuristic City of Arts and Sciences. Making the most of the scenic environment, we will take the School group picture right before dinner.
For those wishing to experience the vibrant Valencian nightlife, after dinner, we will move to a nearby pub for drinks and later to an outdoors nightclub. All night attractions are situated within the area of the City of Arts and Sciences, which makes for quite a spectacular environment to walk around at night.
